Information Insights provides facilitation for meetings of many types and sizes. Our consultants use a variety of facilitation styles for a wide range of purposes, such as:
Strategic planning offers an opportunity for alignment between board members and between the board and key staff. We take an individualized approach to strategic planning, tailored to the specific needs of each organization. The role of an Information Insights facilitator begins with designing a process that will help a group reach consensus or take action, providing the board of directors and executive staff of an organization with a roadmap for setting future direction.
The art of facilitation comes in helping people listen honestly and openly to differing views. Information Insights facilitators manage the flow of discussion to ensure an open and balanced process that no single person dominates. We encourage participation from quieter group members, enforcing ground rules and keeping the group focused on the task at hand, as necessary.
In a strategic planning retreat, we discuss challenges and opportunities in the environment in which the organization operates. We take an in-depth look at internal assets and liabilities as well as the relationships of the organization’s board and staff with local, state and federal agencies, businesses and individuals. We address vision, goals and current issues, from finances and staffing to how the group works together and makes decisions.
Information Insights conducts strategic planning retreats and other types of facilitated meetings across Alaska. Organizations we have worked with include: Alaska Humanities Forum (2007); Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority (1997-2007); Big Brothers Big Sisters (2006); Bristol Bay Native Association (2004, 2005); Doyon, Limited (2007, 2008); Fairbanks Tennis Association; Nome Community Center (2007); Tanana Chiefs Conference (2000-2008); Alaska Division of Forestry (2008); The Nature Conservancy (2006-2008).
Information Insights is a creative and innovative organization offering skilled, experienced and diverse staff providing a wide selection of services from facilitation, surveys, visioning, planning, writing, and leadership.

Information Insights and the Cold Climate Housing Research Center are partnering to conduct a survey of Fairbanks residents on how they plan to cope with high energy costs this winter.
The survey will be conducted in two parts, an initial survey this fall to gather information about how residents are planning to handle the rising cost of energy, and a follow-up survey in the spring to find out how higher energy costs actually impacted residents.
We announced this survey at the Greater Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 during a Chamber Spotlight on Information Insights. During the presentation we used our Consensor audience response technology to ask attending chamber members questions similar to those on the survey and display the results instantly.

Leadership Fairbanks, the new leadership course from the Greater Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce, was featured in today’s column by Dermot Cole. Information Insights’ staff will facilitate sessions of Leadership Fairbanks, which runs from October through May. The course is intended for both would-be and established leaders in the community. In addition to covering the theory and practical application of leadership skills, the course offers participants the opportunity to work with a local mentor from a group of high-level Fairbanks leaders. Applications for the program are available at the Chamber of Commerce website. Scholarships are available.

The Alaska Oil and Gas Association (AOGA) released a study today on the role of oil and gas in Alaska’s economy. Information Insights and the McDowell Group collaborated on the research, which used 2007 industry data to update a study the two firms published in 2001. The 2008 report expands on the earlier work quantifying the economic role of the oil and gas industry on specific regions within the state including the Municipality of Anchorage, FNSB, KPB, Mat-Su Borough, North Slope Borough, and the Valdez region, and examining direct, indirect and induced economic effects of the industry in these regions and communities. Brian Rogers presented the study findings at the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce’s Monday Forum. An overview of the results appears on the AOGA website. Download the full report (large file).
